Well, after a considerable break I have taken up the noble activity of Plodding. Plodding for those who are unsure is defined as follow.
Plodding (n)
1. The act of moving heavily and slowly. 2. The act or an instance of moving as if running while unfit, out of practice and overweight. 3. The power or ability to plod. 4. Sports The exercise or sport of someone who plods.
At the moment the majority of my plodding is on the treadmill, but eventually I fear I must venture out into the cold and the dark In the past I have done a fair bit of plodding completing the Robin Hood Half marathon on a few occasions and the Sheffield half marathon too. My last significant plod was in 2000 when I undertook the torture of the Great North Plod. Despite training well, on the day I had a chest infection, this combined with the hills (far worse than Sheffield) helped to push me over a 2hr time. For me this was disheartening and this dampened my enthusiasm for plodding. With a couple of changes in Job and two children I stopped my plodding for quite a while and I have only just started to plod again.
Why Plod? Well, believe it or not, despite the difficulty I always have starting to plod after a break, I enjoy it. It tends to keep me fit(ter) than loafing around does and it may even be helping me to shift a few pound, though I put most of that down to Special K and my desire to get into one of those little red swim suits. If the plodding goes well I may add to this section of the site, if not, then this page will suddenly, mysteriously vanish.
The link in the menu will take you to my latest plod logs.
